Dr. Jeff Graham and The Psychology Society are offering three sessions each term for all staff, students and friends who are interested in learning a proven relaxation technique. Come to all sessions or any session you’d like. We have a 12-1 time-slot on Wednesdays so that more staff and students can come during the day. The sessions are in DV3129 or DV3130: the Council Chambers in the Davis Building.
NEW this year: there are also drop-in HCC-run Mindfulness Meditation sessions 12:10 to 1:00 EVERY Wednesday in the RAWC Multipurpose room B.

Learn a relaxation technique that calms the mind, releases stress, and opens a door to your unconscious sources of creativity. Wear comfortable clothing, and be prepared to gain the benefits of a night’s rest in twenty minutes. We will practice simple breathing and awareness exercises and explore a spiritual psychology for everyday living. These dates are meant to be stand alone sessions, but many students and staff come to each one to get more practice and to hear slightly different discussions each time. I usually speak for 20 minutes, then we meditate/relax for 30 minutes and talk about our experiences for 10 minutes (or more!).
TRY IT ON! Each session will involve training on the basic techniques, and a discussion of the effects of your mind on what matters in your life. The meditation routine is a combination of “progressive muscle relaxation” taught by Harvard MD, Herbert Benson as the “the relaxation response” and more ancient techniques used by mystics in many different religions. Some refer to it as a breathing meditation that attempts to quiet the internal chatter of our conscious ego in order to access a renewing state of consciousness and creativity.
